Google Books

Where has the time gone???  Here's one place:  A (very much in-progress) set of indices to books of interest to Classicists (and scholars of related fields) available via Google Book Search.  I have put together pages for Greek Literature, for Latin Literature, and for Bible/Judaism/Early Christianity.  All still in the process of coming together, although now perhaps fit to be viewed by the electronic world...For the most useful parts, see Catullus and Horace on the Latin Literature page...oh, and I suppose Apuleius is close to done too.  [Feel free to let me know whether you think the format of the Catullus or the Horace editions works better...]  Oh, and boldface entries are those that may be downloaded, rather than just viewed online.

This all came out of noticing how much was out there, and how faulty the descriptions visible in Google Book Searches are...Without getting into details, let's just say it involved trying to find particular volumes of Migne's Patrologia Graeca [nearly all of which are available, but which are not as yet part of my indices...tip for finding volumes:  search for "Migne" with "in hoc tomo XCIII" or whatever...]

UPDATE:  See also the partially Google-Books-linked numismatic bibliography by the proprietor of A Gift for Polydektes...So, obviously look there for numismatic books, but also Greek, Hellenistic, and Roman history...

UPDATE (12/14/06):  Now I've got most of the early volumes of Migne's PG linked, and some volumes of PL (Augustine, for example)...

Comments

These are very useful indeed, particularly for the PG and PL. Only one, rueful note: most of the books on your list (not the PG) -- even those digitised by the Bodleian library in Oxford, -- are inaccessible to UK viewers. Ah, the joy of copyright!

I liked the Google numismatic bibliography link. Thanks!
