A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum--coming soon to Baton Rouge...
"The total purpose of this show, for the cast, crew and audience, is to have fun," said director Dee Cothern as she raced from actor to actor, adjusting flowing Greek robes.
Dr. George Jones, retired opthamologist, wandered up, barefoot and wearing a green draped number in his role as Erronius.
"She told me to try to walk like an old man," he grinned. "It's a stretch, but I'm working on it."
"I'm the dumb blond of the show," said Chelsea Gidden, tossing her appropriately colored hair. She's the young love interest in the classic comedy musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which opens at the Cabaret Theatre, 8419 Florida Blvd., at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4.
Gidden, who is just 15 years old, and Jones qualify as the youngest and oldest in the cast, and were having as much fun as the rest of of the troupe at rehearsal.
Jennifer Johnson began trying to pin up Gidden's hair. "This is a fun, fun, fun show and it's nice to do something that's complete silliness," she said. "I play Domina, wife of Senex, mother of Hero, and I want this girl to be my daughter-in-law."
